TAFE Tasmania
CRICOS Code 03041M
TasTAFE is a stable, state-owned asset that operates under its own legislative functions and powers under the Training and Workforce Development Act 2013.
It is the largest public provider of vocational education and training in Tasmania, and is governed by an independent Statutory Board consisting of up to seven members appointed by the Minister for Education and Training.
TasTAFE’s purpose is to lead the development of Tasmania’s skilled workforce
Each year we have around 22,000 enrolments, including around 5000 apprentices, with trade apprentice numbers continuing to grow. We offer more than 200 nationally accredited and industry-endorsed qualifications ranging from Certificate I to Advanced Diploma level, as well as short courses and skill sets across more than 30 industry areas.
Being Government owned brings many benefits such as a modern network of 16 campuses and contemporary training facilities, and experienced teachers who have industry currency and competency. Our non-teaching managers and support staff also have the highest expectations placed upon their work.
TasTAFE has an ongoing commitment to meeting Tasmanian community expectations and the needs of all of our students, and offers a range of flexible study options and support services.
Given that our focus is upon education and training for job-readiness and employment outcomes, we stay connected with business and industry in Tasmania, and work hard to ensure the vocational education and training students receive is industry-relevant and provides real industry skills that are highly valued by employers.
We believe very strongly in our values and strive to deliver training that prepares our students to take up employment for the first time, gain a promotion or change careers, as well as meet industry demand and enable Tasmanians to gain the skills and qualifications they need for the state’s workforce and the community to succeed and prosper.

Check out our top 10 reasons why studying at TasTAFE is a great choice!
Flexible delivery – as well as delivering training at our 16 campuses and training facilities across the Tasmania, we also offer online courses, as well as community and regionally-based programs, workplace and apprenticeship training, self-paced and evening classes. We also deliver training interstate and internationally.
Accredited and nationally recognised qualifications – we offer over 200 nationally accredited and industry-endorsed qualifications from Certificate I to Advanced Diploma level, as well as short courses and skill sets across more than 30 industry areas. If you’re an employer looking to multi-skill your workforce, improve productivity or expand workforce capability, we also provide a range of customised training solutions to meet your business needs.
Real-life learning – our courses focus on giving you hands-on, practical training so that you’ll gain the skills and knowledge you need to be job-ready in your chosen industry. You’ll have the opportunity to gain real-life experience in a range of simulated work environments, industry work placements and community projects – and we can also provide you with the skills and know-how to start your own business and to be your own boss!
Learn from the best – our teachers are industry professionals and are keen to share their experience, skills and passion with the next generation of skilled workers. Many of our teachers come direct from industry – or work part time at TasTAFE and part time in industry – so they have plenty of up-to-date knowledge and skills, and practical ‘tricks of the trade’ to share with you and help you succeed both in your course and in your future career.
Links with industry – we work hard to develop and maintain partnerships with local business and industry to ensure your training is relevant, current and up-to-date. This means that you will be job-ready when you finish your course, and have the skills and knowledge employers are looking for. We are also Tasmania’s largest provider of training for apprentices and trainees, and have built strong relationships with business and industry across the state.
Specialist facilities – our campuses and training facilities offer a wide range of industry-standard facilities and equipment. Depending on your course of study, you may also have the opportunity to get real-life skills by working in one of our training restaurants and cafes, hair and beauty salons, or student IT helpdesk, or be based at our working farm or automotive or trades workshops.
Recognition for prior learning and skills – at TasTAFE we believe that the things you already know how to do should be formally recognised. You may be able to fast track your studies by having your previous skills and knowledge recognised, or be awarded advanced standing or credit transfer for further study for higher level vocational qualifications or at university.
Affordable – tuition fees are heavily subsided by the Tasmanian Government and further subsidies are available for students that hold a concession card. Students undertaking Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualifications may be eligible for the Commonwealth VET Student Loans scheme and be able to defer tuition fees. We also offer financial assistance for those experiencing financial hardship, and, in partnership with industry, local government and community groups also offer scholarships throughout the year.
Diverse and inclusive – at TasTAFE you’ll be learning alongside students of all ages and at all stages of their career pathway. From school leavers to career changers, or simply people who just want to learn something new… your network is set to expand! We recognise and respect individual differences and value the unique experiences, knowledge and skills that all students bring, and our priority is to create a positive learning environment for all our students which promotes equality and inclusive practices, is free from bullying, discrimination and harassment, and is supportive of the specific needs of all individuals.
Supportive – everyone's journey is different and sometimes you might need some extra support to achieve your study or career goals. Whether you are at the very start of your training, returning to study after a long break, or looking to upskill in a specific area, we're here to help you to be successful in your chosen field of study, apprenticeship or traineeship. Our Student Support services are available for all students, and include everything from counselling to financial assistance, career planning and providing advice on study support options to help you through your qualification.
